What is the advantage of 4GB ram over 3GB
I've installed 3GB of ram, my computer has the capacity for 4, are there any advantages? if so what are they?
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

A Mid 2007 can actually take up to 6GB.

Depends on which and how many App's you have running.
Check your > OS X Mavericks Activity Monitor to determine how much RAM is being used.
4GB is 25% more RAM than 3GB.
Addtionally depending on which iMac model you have...? It may actually be able to take more than the Apple Spec's state.

I see from your original post that you are running Mavericks. 4gb RAM is still on the low side for this latest version of OSX but is better than 3gb.
Will you see an improvement? I think you will, though it is unlikely to be dramatic.
Your iMac is now 7 years old and is the OLDEST iMac to be able to run Mavericks. Unlikely that it will manage the next upgrade but the extra RAM will at least make Mavericks more useable.
Mid 2007 IMac. We use our computer for email, shopping, browsing, etc. Very few games, not interested in graphics, etc. Would 4GB increase speed?
I think Apple support told me that 4 was the most I could install. Are you sure I can go to 6?
Thank you. I think I will stick with 3 for awhile. Only had 1 before, and Leopard OS, and the improvement from 1 to 3 is WOW! At least I know I have future options.
Yes.
Thank you.
