Core Image: Not Supported??? Quartz Extreme: Not Supported???

Hello! I'm new to this forum and I'm a Mac noob. I have a problem. For some reason my computer is saying Core Image and Quartz Extreme are not supported.

Hi Leek Mibles;

May I welcome you to the Apple Discussion Forums.

The reason your system is telling you it can do Core Image is because it doesn't have the hardware to support it. Since your system is a PowerBook, you are unable to upgade the graphic card because it is soldered in. So I am sorry to say that the only way for you to get Core Image is to upgrade your whole system.

Weird.

I looked at the hardware requirements for Quartz Extreme and for Core Image, and they both seem to include your hardware.

What am I missing?

Yea, it says my hardware is supported so I don't understand what's going on.

Before I upgraded to Tiger I used to get the rotating cube when I switched users but now it doesn't work. The rotating cube uses Quartz Extreme right? Can anyone explain what's going on?

I found one thread where a person had this problem (and a host of others) and, in the end, the graphics card was going bad. Obviously, I'm not sure if this is your problem.

Do you really have 10.4.3, or are you fully upgraded to 10.4.7? In your situation I would update all software. I would zap the PRAM, I would burn incense, I would run a hardware test....

Yea, I updated right after I posted the first message so now I'm on 10.4.7 but it still says Core Image and Quartz Extreme not supported. I really don't understand what's going on. Like I said, everything stopped working after I upgraded a long while back. Well, I think that's when everything stopped working. I didn't care about the use of it until now, now that I'm trying to get some funky effects going with VirtueDesktops.

I don't think my graphics card is going bad, or at least it shouldn't be.

Well, to really know if you have some faulty hardware just run the Apple Hardware Test.

OK so I zapped the PRAM and did the Hardware Tests. Even the Extended Hardware Test found no problems so what's going on? Am I the only one that has this type of problem? This is driving me crazy!

I am currently experiencing the same issue but here is my situation. I run a school of a 100+ eMacs and have just been informed that it works every where but in our computer lab of about 28eMacs. I am looking in to the issue myself and if I can find anything out I will be happy to share. Quite an odd problem!

While on my Power Mac G4 (workplace) still has no support for "Core Image" (because of my poor graphic card), the "Quartz Extreme" is now supported again,... and the "Change User Cube" is now working again.

Thanks, the resetting has solved my issue.
