can I restore a phone I just 'remote wiped'? Its my phone but the screen went dead so I was advised to wipe it.

Depends on whether it has a hardware problem. If you restore it be can't see the screen, you won't be able to set it up.
If it was remoted wiped and you can now access the screen, you should be able to restore it from your itunes or icloud backup.
