iMovie won't open

Hello,

If i click on the iMovie icon on the dock it seems asthough it will open as the icon bounces and it says iMovie on the top bar, but nothing more happens and the programme doesent actually open. If i then click on the icon in the dock it says 'programme not responding'. I have a video in iMovie that isnt saved anywhere else and therefore my question is one of 2 things:

1) is there any way of sorting iMovie out to get it to open

2) if i cant get it to open is there any way of extractig the video from the programme as it isnt saved anywhere else. If i go into finder and then to movies it simply has a link to iMovie library, which also wont open.

Im running the latest OSX 10.9.2, and am working with iMovie 909 i believe, (or the most uptodate version)

Thankyou for your help

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

I think I had a similar problem and I had two days of work that I was desperate not to lose. After opening, force quitting and constantly reporting I read that people had been having issues with the library and were emptying it. I was reluctant to do this but I noticed that there are seperate launch icons for iMovie, the iMovie library and the iMovie theater. After the same problem occuring when opening the first two, clicking on the iMovie theater icon launched the program immediately, with everything still in place, all you do is click on the library tab to switch back to the editing screen.
