I deleted a song off my PC, and evidently from the cloud as well

I was deleting music from iTunes, most of it duplicates. I deleted a song from an album I'd purchased in October, and it's no longer on my PC or the cloud. I have it on my iPhones, iPad and iPod, but it is nowhere on my computer or the cloud. The rest of the album is there. When I go to the store it shows I purchased the album. The list of songs shows "purchased" after each title, but that button is ghosted after this particular song. I cannot find any option to download the song again; it has the ghosted "purchased" button beside it. All the other songs have a "play" button. So, I cannot even purchase this song separately so I can add it back into my library. I don't want to chance connecting one of my devices, I'm afraid iTunes will delete the song since it's no longer in my library. Please, what can I do?

Thank you so much, Judy! I will check this out. I've been trying to coordinate all my music onto differrent devices, (after I got my 5c I decided to use the 4s as an iPod Touch, even though I've had people offer to buy it for up to $200!), and with all the syncing onto a new computer my music library is a mess! I also have music on some older mp3 players (Creative Zen Micro & Phillips Media Player). There is music on these older devices I don't have on any of my iStuff, & am hoping I can move that music to iTunes.

When I synced my Nano to the new computer a lot of the music was deleted from the device as well as my old itunes library. Some was ripped from cds, which are available as purchases from the iTunes store, other was fairly recent purchases from iTunes. If you have any ideas as to how I can recover this music (I have it on an external HD, which I've been reluctant to use, as it's the last place I have any of this music stored. I'm afraid it will be deleted again).

Again, thanks a lot, and I'll definitely let you know if this worked for me. If you have any suggestions as to how I can move music over from other players, I would appreciate the advice!

Hi cyn37211,

I can certainly understand how your music library can get disorganized with data from different sources. It's a constant challenge for me as well to keep all of my music, photos, videos, etc. organized. Did you ever back up your PC to an external drive? If so, you can add these files to your iTunes library. Here's how:

Adding music and other content to iTunes

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1473

Adding content on your computer to iTunes

iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.

  1. Open iTunes
  2. From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    • Mac

      Add to Library

    • Windows
      • Add File to Library
      • Add Folder to Library
  3. Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add

If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.

I hope this information helps ....

Have a great day!
