Hi my son gave me a iPhone 4 from Australia and it needs to be unlocked how can I do this

Have your son contact the carrier the device was locked to and see if they provide unlocking services. If they do, see if you qualify. Only the carrier the device is locked to can authorize the unlock.

All the AU Apple approved carriers do offer unlocking ,problem is generally the iPhone needs to be in their country and being used on the carriers network for them to unlock it

Sounds like you already have iPhone in UK so .do as Chris has recommended and have your son discuss with the AU carrier
