160gb Classic with battery that says it is only charged 50%?

Hi Guys, Ive got a 160gb Classic which is about 8 months old. I had a problem a few months ago and it wouldnt turn back on after charging. It appears to be back working perfectly however the battery says it is only charged 50%? Ive still got the years warranty, should I Take to a store to see what they say?

If your iPod battery is not fully charging, I recommend restarting the device first:

If the behavior continues, next restore it to factory settings:

Also, if you are connecting it to a laptop, make sure it is connected to its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).


If you have not in a while, shut down (power off) the computer. Disconnect all USB devices (you can leave standard keyboard and mouse connected if used). Do the iPod Reset mentioned above. Start up computer and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer, by itself.


One more thing you can try (on the iPod) is to play the iPod unattended, until it stops playing due to low power. Try turning it ON again and playing it. If it plays, let it play until it stops playing again. Repeat until it no longer turns back ON. Then, immediately connect it to power and recharge fully.
