OS X v 10.9.2 problems

Since I downloaded OS X 10.9.2 Safari does not start up right away A message says I am not connected to the Internet. Within 10-30 seconds, I finally connect tothe internet. In addition, graphics from an incoming email no longer appear. Anyone else having these problems?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
