Is there some sort of setting I need to fix to be able to watch videos posted by friends in Facebook? They are not flash videos since I am able to see them in my iPhone4 but for some reason I get the static frame with the read more button whenever I push play on the videos.

It sounds like the Facebook app on your iPhone is not playing video. I recommend following the steps in the article below for an issue like this (you can skip step to install another app from the App Store):
