Windows Network Connection

I'm stumped. OS 10.6.8 Macbook Air. We changed our office network to Windows 8 (previously XP). I cannot see the shared Network folder from Finder. I have a Macbook Pro with Mavericks, and the change was seamless. The Windows 8 server can see my Macbook Air on the network, but I can't see it. Using Finder "Go To Server," I get the dreaded "There was an error connecting to the server “192.168.0.57”. Check the server name or IP address, and then try again." I have my Macbook Pro side-by-side with the same configuration, but the Air does not see "Shared" in the finder. I even tried a direct Ethernet connection. It connects me to the internet (wired and wirelessly) but I get no network functions. Any ideas?
