Several minutes until usable after wake from sleep

This problem has been dogging me since before Mavericks. My admin account (other accounts do not have this problem) can take up to five minutes to become fully usable. Some apps seem to work, others give me spinning beach ball. The network (wireless or ethernet) is included in the slow start. I have scoured these discussions, tried to compare Console logs and even gone to the Genuis bar for help (the recommended deleting bezel services which does not help). Once it wakes up fully the system seems to work just fine. Does anyone have an idea of what might be causing this?

OS X Mavericks (10.9), 2.2 ghz i7 CD2, 16gb ram, 750gb hd

That depends on what happens when you repair the disk. If nothing is found wrong or the repair is successful, yes.

I have restarted several times with varying success. At first, I was getting nearly immediate response. I only had one application open (Chrome). Now I have eight open (Safari, Mail, Chrome, Pages, Calendar, System Preferences, iTunes) and it took over 60 seconds to be fully usable.

I quite all applications except for chrome and calendar, slept the machine, woke it and it came back in 10-15 seconds.

OK, so one of the applications you quit is apparently causing the problem. See whether you can isolate it to just one of them.

I have did the sleep/restart sequemce many times since yesterday using different mixes of applications. It appears that Safari, or iTunes or Pages running seem to cause the wake up to become very long. It is relatively slow without these applications (avg=15 sec) but with them running the wake goes to 45+secs.

Should I go back to Option 2?

Also (this may be nothing) I installed a beta version of Safari before the launch of Mavericks. I seem to remember that this behvior started around that time.

Thanks again for your help, I hope we can resolve this to get my system back to where it should be.

Please sign out of iCloud in its preference pane and see whether there's any change. No data will be removed from the servers, and you can retrieve it by signing back in. That said, you should always have a current archiveof the data for safety's sake, even if you don't sign out.

Signed out of iCloud. Slept/wake three times, no change in time to usable.

I should have been more specific. Please quit everything except Safari and test while signed out of iCloud.

Done, only Safari and no iCloud. Start up time is stil the same, Nearly 60 seconds.

Please disconnect from the network by turning off Wi-Fi and/or unplugging the Ethernet cable. Any difference?

I have done this and I am not sure if things work better or not. The first time in, it was slow but later the system was very responsive.

No, I access the internet directly via wi-fi or ethernet.

I think your problem is related to the fact that you're connected to two networks at the same time, or to one network with two different interfaces. Either turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect the Ethernet cable.
