iBook, Mac OS X (10.4.9)
The iBook G4 is a powerPC build, and cannot run an OS X past 10.5.8;
so if you want to run OS X 10.6.8 or Later, you'd need to buy a Intel-based
computer model, made from about 2006 and later.
The PPC Macs can only upgrade to Leopard 10.5.8, and the means was
by retail DVD; then an update to get the last steps was by download.
Both the iBook and PowerBook G4 models came to a close with the introduction
of the MacBook series; the MacBook series (not Pro or Air) came to a close in
the year 2010; so there are not new basic MacBook models. There are MB/Air
and MB/Pro; though there are some companies who repair & sell fixed old ones.
So the newer Apple portables, in the online Store and in refurbished store online,
plus in retail locations, can give you a later version for sync with iPad, iPhone,
App Store, iTunes Store, Mac App Store; among other later features.
•Refurbished and Clearance iPod, iPad, & Mac Products - Apple Store (US)

{These qualify for a complementary support/service; &
for an optional AppleCare plan, same as new models.}
There are third party sources for repaired, restored, refurbished used Apple
products; be wary of auction sources, most sellers aren't knowledgable nor
do they offer any support or service beyond your hope to get money back.
For the low-cost older computer product with limited future prospects, you
can usually get an Intel-based Mac that can run at least Snow Leopard;
see companies such as macsales, wegenermedia, powermedic, & etc.
You can research vintage, obsolete, and supported models by reading
through everymac.com, apple support, mactracker.ca download, etc.
Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
