mac would only start in safe mode for days?then suddenly it works

I have OS X 10.8.5. Macbook Pro 2010....Intel core duo... About 6 days ago I was using my macbook 2010 and was on the internet when it froze and i had to shut it down manually because nothing worked. it would not restart, Just the apple logo with the spinning wheel going forever and doing nothing else, and finally with some reading I got it to boot in safe mode.This morning after days of contact with support and using time machine to back it up, it still remained unchanged.I have windows 7 on bootcamp also. And that too would only boot in safe mood. I could not reload the os x from original disk because anyhting that required a restart would of course not set itself up. I even got mountain from the internet and on restart it failed to restart so I have been stuck in safe mode for days until this morning when some strange unexplained things happened. I decided to go into windows safe mode because I can view the mas file of my Mac hard drive. Each time in the past that I started windows I would first select the networking window before selecting the windows boot camp, and chose my network..this time i didn't select a network and just selected windows boot camp and low and behold it started windows normally. I have suspected a hardware issue so in windows i decided to set up directx. I found the direct x.exe a started the setup. I walked away and returned about 2 hours later and windows was not running anymore and too my big surprise It was running in mac os x normally. I have no idea why. I just wondered if there are some log files i can compare to find what has changed? Any clues will help..Right now I fear shutting it down without knowing the reasons for this behavior.

Just a suggestion... back up all your files before you spend a lot of time trying to figure this out.

Thanks Rob . I have done that already. I didn't mention that I did another reset of NVRAM yesterday morning before all this seem to correct itself. I had attempted a reset several times each and every day before yesterday and it didn't do a thing to help. I really don't know if a reset actually took place because I didn't hear any beeps but also i have tone deafness for high pitches. Anyway, can check in a file or log somewhere and compare? I have a backup, in Time Machine, that I made while in safe mode, and 2 new ones since it started running normal. I do have a copy of an error report that i sent to apple during my problem. Would anyone be interested in seeing it? thank you all.
