Am I unable to update my original iPad to IOS 6.0?
I'm I screwed? Games and aps need at least 6.0. So there is nothing I can do?

The max iOS level for an iPad 1 is 5.1.1....

It can't be updated past 5.1.1. You may be able to get compatible application versions by downloading the current ones to a computer or compatible device and then trying to download them from the Purchases tab in the iTunes App Store.
