I forgot to sign out of iCloud on my iPhone before changing my Apple ID email and password.

OK, so just to make sure - you went into Manage your Apple ID, and changed your old Apple ID to the one you currently have. But that old ID is still signed onto iCloud. Right?

If that is right, then this is what you need to do:

1. Sign back into Manage your Apple ID and change your Apple ID back to the old ID (this is temporary - do not Verify it - just press Done when it has been changed):

Apple - My Apple ID

2. On your device go to Settings>iCloud, scroll down to the bottom and Delete the iCloud account from your device. Use your current Apple ID password. Don't worry about the warning messages. As long as you have been syncing to iCloud, everything will redownload once you sign back in.

3. Once the iCloud account has been deleted, go back into Manage your Apple ID and change your Apple ID back to the new one (you may need to verify that one again).

4. Go back into your device under Settings>iCloud and sign on with your current ID.

You should be all set!

You could try going to a "genius" bar at an apple store, they often know what to do in situations like this. You could also try logging out of your apple ID on your phone and log back in. 😕

I had the same question - been stuck with this for a long time because none of the other answers worked. Just did what you suggested and I am up and running. Thank you for putting it in language a non-techy person can follow!

Depends on what you did with your Apple ID to begin with. Did you create a brand new Apple ID, or did you edit your existing Apple ID to a new email address. If you did the latter, then it is the same account with a different login ID, so everything will still be there.

If you created a brand new Apple ID, then the iCloud account associated with it would also be brand new.

But, again, if all you did was change the email address used for your Apple ID account, then follow the instructions provided above. Your iCloud account will remain intact.

Thank you for replying. I ended up having to call Apple Support and they walked me through the process. I only changed the name of my Apple ID, not create an additional ID, so it wasn't a difficult problem to resolve after all. 🙂

If I delete the original account, will I lose everything that is stored in my cloud?
