How do I synch photos in Albums from my iPhone to my Mac?

I have arranged 1,000+ pictures and videos into various Albums on my iPhone. When I try to find the specific albums to bring into iPhoto on my Mac , I can't see them. Further, can see a lot of photos were copied into iPhoto, but many that were placed in the Album are nowhere to be found. Can some one tell me how I can important the Albums with the "Photos" app on my iPhone to iPhoto or, failing that, tell me how I can make sure that the photos are both in my Camera Roll and Album so I can bring them into iPhotos in that way?

I am concerned about losing the most important photos in my album.

Thanks.
