Problems with "reconnect all"

I am having problems getting the "reconnect all" function to work. I have Aperture version 3.4.5, I have repaired permissions on the mac as well as doing all repairs and rebuilding available to aperture. I have on an external HD, that is MAC formatted, several hundred pics that are noted to be missing in aperture that are available on my external HD. I can reconnect them one by one but even though the "reconnect all" button is available, it only connects the one picture selected, even though many are available in the folder. I have read many posts on this but most are from 2010. Any help would be appreciated.
