My ipod touch (fourth gen) won't sync.

A friend of mine recently gave me her ipod touch, fourth generation, and I had reset the whole thing and tried to sync my itunes with it with no luck. I have no error messages or anything, it just doesn't automatically sync. (I have tried changing my preerances for automatic and manual synching a few times) and when I go to devices there's no action availble. I'm pretty sure my itunes doesn't recognize the ipod even though my computer does. I have no idea what the problem might be.

iPod touch, iOS 6.1.6

See

iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows

- I would start with

Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

or

Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components

- New cable and different USB port

- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause
