Printing a pdf created in Pages 09

I created a newsletter in Pages 09 (already bailed on the "upgrade" which can't even link text boxes). I converted it to a pdf so that it can be printed on a Xerox work centre 7535. The colors do not match those on screen - the are much darker/grayer/muddy. Also, the photos are blurry/bitmapped. Any suggestions?

The 7535 uses autocolor sensing and will do CMYK colors when specified from the Pages color picker, you may have sent sRGB instead. What resolution photos did you place in your Pages document? There are also four printer resolutions that can be set:

  1. Toner Saver - 600x600 dpi with limits on maximum saturation
  2. Standard - 600 x 600 dpi with 256 half-tone levels
  3. Enhanced - Raster image processing at 600x600 dpi with 8 bits/pixel. Halftone creation with resolution enhancement and LED marking at 1200x2400 dpi with 256 halftone levels.
  4. High Resolution - 1200x1200 dpi with 256 halftone levels

You are using the Oct. 13, 2013 OS X print drivers for the built-in controller and the 2013 drivers and patches for the EFI Fiery controller?

WorkCentre warmed up?

Thoughts?

1. Your photos are rgb and being converted to cmyk for printing. cmyk can not reproduce the bright clors you see on screen, especially blues, greens and tans.

2. You do not have enough resolution for quality printin ie 300 dpi at the size used in the document.

3. You have not color corrected the images and sharpened them for printing

4. If you converted to .pdf any transparency will have been reduced to a very low 72dpi by Apple's default settings.

Pages is not Indesign or Quark XPress and is not really set up for commercial quality printing, just printing to yoir desktop printer.

I found it interesting that the Xerox Phaser color printers mostly support Pantone, Apple ColorSync, CIE, and ICC color standards. The standard WorkCentre 7535 doesn't appear to list its color standard support, even in the detailed specifications.

With addition of the EFI Fiery Network Server, then you get color management tools in the Fiery utilities including Pantone calibration and ICC profiles.
