sonnet Allegro usb 3.0 PCI

Hi,

Just installed a Sonnet Allegro USB3.9 PCI on my Mac Pro 2010 Lion.

Its on slot 4.0 as recommended.

System information says Slot 4 gives speed of 5GB/s.

However when I check USB 3.0 speed it is only "up to 480mb/s" which is exactly what I get for USB2.0.

So what is going on here?

USB 3.0 that works like USB 2.0?

Why bother with this Sonnet?

Any experienced comments will be sincerely appreciated

Thanks

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

I also have a Sonnet Tempo SSD on slot 3 which works fine.

Here I assume it might be a report bug and I will definately check the transfer speed of the USB 3.0 connection compared with my USD 2.0 inbuilt connections.

It is still an annoying bug, in addition to the fact that after installing the Allegro and downloading the driver from Sonnet, it only recognized one USB 3.) outlet and not the other (weird). Only after I hooked two hard drives to the USB connectors and reinstalled the driver, it also recognized both. So maybe this Allegro has many other bugs and was therefore discontinued.

Any idea what people use the PCI2 slot for? Can the Sonnet Allegro fit there?

The 3-4 slots are only x1 lane.

Thanks a lot for all the good suggestions

2010-2012: 4 PCIe 2.0 slots (one free PCIe 2.0 x16 slot )

2 PCIe 2.0 x4 slots

No Mac Pro had more than one 1x slot and that was the 2006 1,1 (16-1-4-8 was standard configuration)

2008: 2 PCIe 2.0 slots x 16x and 2 x 4x PCIe 1.1 slots

2009: 2 PCIe 2.1 slots @ 4x (oddly they share common bandwidth and are not fully independed which can affect SSD controllers)
