What will happen if i let windows 7 scan and fix my ipod?

Everytime that i plug in my ipod into my laptop lately windows 7 wants to scan and fix it. I know not to unplug my ipod without waiting for it to discconnect first so i know that's not the problem.I have been using this ipod on this laptop since i bought my laptop a year and half ago. I just started having the promblem with windows 7 wanting to scan it almost a week ago.I also update my itunes whenever the newest ipod comes out. My ipod also works just fine. What could be wrong with my ipod that it wants to scan and fix it? If i allow it to scan and fix it will it delete all of my music?

iPod classic, Windows 7

Maybe there is a setting in Windows that will prevent it from doing the scan. But it is possible that the iPod's storage has data corruption.

If there are songs on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library, you are taking a risk because iPods can become broken or lost (or need a Restore because of data corruption). Doing a "scan and fix" now may or may not do any harm, but you are likely to lose that music eventually. If you want info on off-loading songs from an iPod, you can post back.

If all of the songs on the iPod are in your iTunes library, you should have iTunes do a Restore. The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes. That will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. You can then re-sync everything back on the iPod.
