Oct 23, 2014 2:39 AM in response to willstarbaileyby colephotographic,Now that the latest update allows SMS to be sent from any apple device via an Iphone, maybe apple are heading in the right direction. Being able to text from a Mac is better that going back and forward from one device to another.

Nov 5, 2014 8:30 AM in response to colephotographicby SourMashII,I would find it deluxe, as I am trapped in a p.c. based environment at work, and it would be so much easier to text links right from my desktop, like I can on my MBPro...
Sigh, Google Hangouts for the win, Hangouts from p.c. to iPhone, copy from Hangouts on the phone, and paste into a text.. sigh.

Nov 26, 2014 4:10 PM in response to thatxgreenxgirlby Brandon Svec,Did anyone here think to install OS X in VMWare on their PC? Not the most elegant solution, but a workaround at least.

Even if you were to run OS X in VMWare, imessage won't authenticate as it's detected as not being a real mac. Same problem on hackintosh systems. The fact that Apple goes to such great lengths to keep imessage off of non-mac hardware, we'll be lucky if we see an imessage system on a Windows PC in the near future.

Nov 27, 2014 12:43 PM in response to knewknowby Ralph Johns (UK),Hi,
iMessages account on the Mac requires the Serial Number to be flashed properly to the Main Board so it can be read by the system.
The app then reads this and creates a Auth token that sits in the Keychain.
The Serial Number can be missing on Repaired and Refurbished machines if the flashing of the Serial Number to a new board is not done.
There are some reports that on working (iMessages) computers that the Serial Number has "Disappeared" for some at the Mountain Lion to Mavericks and for others at the Mavericks to Yosemite Upgrades.
The Serial Number is used as part of the process to ensure it is you on your computer that is using the iMessages account.

Jan 4, 2015 7:53 PM in response to thatxgreenxgirlby heronf,Best workaround on a pc I've found so far is to run airserver and then project your iphone to your pc through airplay. While it doesn't allow you to respond to texts, it does allow you to see them. Which to be honest is probably what we all want it for anyways, as I'm just to lazy to get off my pc to go to the kitchen and look at my phone..
You have to keep the phone on and keep the screen on all the time so plug it in. But it works pretty well.
For anyone interested.
*Add on a bluetooth headset. And you're good to go if you really want to geek out and respond to messages through the 'hey siri' command.

Jan 27, 2015 3:41 PM in response to thatxgreenxgirlby tyshep12,Best option is to have a VNC client connect to a Mac that you're signed into on. What would be cool is if someone created a program that captured all text messages forwarded to a Mac and then enabled you to access it using the Mac's IP address, therefore enabling iMessage on a Windows system, or any system for that matter. It isn't the best option because you have to own a Mac, but if there are shared accounts for one computer, then that wouldn't be an issue.

Jan 30, 2015 5:38 PM in response to thatxgreenxgirlby hillie,No current safe way. There is some app that does it but it runs all your texts through a chinese server first, which is sketchy as ****. That is also an Android app.
Apple really needs to bring the Messages app to Windows. I mean they have iCloud on Windows, they have iTunes on Windows and Safari on Windows, and lots of people who use Windows have iPhones.

Feb 22, 2015 3:17 PM in response to thatxgreenxgirlby Jlw111,I feel like this should be a feature on icloud.com, where they already have things like notes and calender that you can access on PC.
Either that or a feature for Boot Camp, which would still keep imessage off PC hardware.

I was wishing the same thing. I work in a windows based environment, in a sub basement where my mobile data plan registers at 1X, if at all. it would be nice to get my messages at my desk, without having to periodically walk a couple floors up when I find a convenient time to do so.

Mar 4, 2015 11:56 AM in response to thatxgreenxgirlby jamrizzi,Actually, just recently a new piece of software was released that actually does this, and it is perfectly safe and legal. You can watch the video to see how they did it.

I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

Mar 4, 2015 10:20 AM in response to thatxgreenxgirlby paulsomb,There is a solution if you have an Apple Computer with iMessage in addition to a PC. If both computers have Chrome and the Chrome Remote Desktop, you can use your PC to control your Apple Computer remotely over a wifi connection.
Step 1: Download Chrome on both your Apple Computer and PC
https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/
Step 2: Download Chrome Remote Desktop on both computers
Step 3: Follow the Chrome Remote Desktop instructions on connecting two computers
Caveats
- You have to have both an Apple Computer and a PC
- You have to keep your Apple Computer on all the time... I use an old macbook and hide it under my desk
- Chrome Remote Desktop may lag depending on the wifi connections of your macbook and your PC

Mar 4, 2015 10:37 AM in response to knewknowby Litesh,I think there are tweaks that allow you to configure iMessage on VMWare image too, I have used it on the Mountain Lion, though it did not work on the Mavericks. I tried these ways but it's a pain to use these alternatives.
You would need to log in to the VMWare image every time you want to make use of the iMessage feature. It would be a much better idea to buy MacBook Air, with the "Continuity" feature introduced, there is much more than just the iMessages.
