i updated my iphone when the new 7.1 update came out and after i did it the settings icon shows a "1" on one corner and doesnt go away.
i went in all of the menu options to try to see if that may help but its still there. hope somebody can help me with that issue 😟

Try these:
1) Restart your iPhone: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
2) Reset All Settings in Settings > General > Reset
3) Backup and restore your iPhone, then restore from your backup. Backup/Restore form backup: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 & Restore iOS: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
One of those will fix it, so check after each one to see if it's fixed beofre going on to the next number.

is i try step 2, will i have to edit my settings again? or is there a way to have them restored?
You will have to edit them again. If you want to try step 3 before step 2 you can. It takes longer, but at least everything is restored in the end.

Reset all settings
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.
This will return all iDevice settings to factory defaults... you will not lose any data.... But you will have to re-enter all of the device settings.
