Cannot connect to seagate wireless plus external hard drive

I have just bought a seagate wireless plus external hard drive. It connects to my ipad wirelessly but will not scan for content so I can't use anything on it. I can open it up on my iMac with the lead but it says connection failed if wireless. Need help please.
