how to upgrade iPhone 4 from Bluetooth 2.1+EDR to Bluetooth 4.0

In order to be able to connect my iPhone 4 to an external device I need Bluetooth Low Energy from Bluetooth SMART. How can I uprage the actual Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR to Bluetooth 4.0

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1

I don't believe you can upgrade the bluetooth on the phone.

You can't. That's governed by the Bluetooth hardware in the iPhone which cannot be upgraded. As ckuan said, you'll need to buy a newer iPhone.
