iMessage

Hey i am using Mac book retina display and from past one week i am facing a problem. every time i try to signing in the iMessages it says cannot connect though i have been entering the correct id and password and have got internet connection and is always connected to it. I have no idea why is this happening

is this because i have not updated my mac to mavericks????

please help me.!!!!
