in great detail. I have a 3rd gen apple tv. All other people on this forum have said to do the same. but it hasn't worked. The Apple TV is still blinking, and on TV it shows me the picture of a USB cable and the itunes icon. just won't reset to factory settings. Please help!
When you attempt to restore via iTunes is there an error?
the problem started when i turned on apple tv the other day and it asked to be updated. I said ok, but then suddenly today when I turned it on, the tv screen showed an itunes icon and a usb cable. I checked online at apple support and it said I should restore it to factory settings using a micro usb cable. I followed the steps for 3rd generation apple tv. it took a long while to restore and even when it showed complete, and I reconnected the tv to apple tv, it again showed the same thing: itunes icon and usb cable. i dont know what else to do. all other times people have asked this question the same process is suggested. but it hasn't helped and i've followed the process twice already.
If it was successful then there is something else going on, best to take it to Apple so they can have a look.
thanks. i don't know what is suddenly wrong with apple updates these days. i updated the laptop to mavericks and it crashed. had to spend 3 days at apple care centre getting it fixed. now apple tv update has screwed it up.
I don't believe it was the update itself, in regards to ATV. Typically it is caused by an interuption either on the network or by a power outage etc. It's rare that would cause damage but there are a few cases.
As for the Mavericks update, not sure but I haven't experienced any issues. Did they give you an indication of the cause?
The apple centre said lots of 2012 and 2013 laptops have problems with maverick. So don't upgrade yet. We've gone back to mountain lion on all our macs.
