I only see Facebook group on my phone

I have an iPhone 4S running IOS 7.1 and an iMac running Mavericks 10.9.2 . I have used my Mac to back-up my phone for many years. I've noticed that recently my contacts haven't been updating to my phone when I update them on my Mac. I decided that perhaps the best thing to do was to turn on iCloud for both devices for a few selected things such as the Contacts. However, that hasn't helped. In fact, after my last sync, all I see on my phone now is the group for Facebook. I'm missing hundreds of other contacts and I need those back! What should I do?
