I have purchased Mountain Lion for download on my iMac, but I am running an older version of OSX (10.5.8), so I do not have the MacApp Store application. How do I redeem and download this product?

Purchase and install Snow Leopard, and update it. You will then have the App Store and be able to redeem your download code.

Apple's price is $19.99 or £14.00 or 18,00 €. It is not available to download from any legitimate source (institutional / corporate deployments excepted).
You can't, you will need to buy the OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 install disk from Apple and then ugrade to 10,6,8 to get the final release of the Mac App Store form Snow Leopard.
