Q: I'm having difficulty upgrading from OSX 10.6

I've tried Apple retail store, on-line chat, and call support but no luck yet. I need to upgrade my Macbook white plastic from OSX 10.6.8.

I have the required memory and available space.

I went to apple.com/oxs and hit "upgrade now".  That took me t a page that said I had to get it from the App store and I clicked on that. It offered a tab to download. I clicked on that. A little circle spun for about 2 seconds and then disappearred.

And that was it - no indication of a complete download, if it even tried, or what the problem might be.

I went back and checked my OS and it does not show an upgrade.

Any ideas please?? I need this upgrade this week in order to take advantage of another program offer!! Thanks

    The only version of OS X you can upgrade to is OS X 10.7 Lion.

    The older White MacBooks and MacBook Pros CANNOT run OS X 10.8 Mountain LIon OR 10.9 Mavericks.

    I do not think your white MacBook is a 2010 model and I do not think it qualifies for OS X 10,9 Mavericks, either.

    You need an aluminum model MB or MBP to run the latest OS X Mavericks.

    To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:

    • iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
    • MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    • MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    • MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
    • MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
    • Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
    • Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    • Xserve (Early 2009)

    Your Mac also needs:

    • OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
    • 2 GB or more of memory
    • 8 GB or more of available space

    Make sure your system meets the minimum hardware/software requirements.

     

    OS X Lion system requirements

    To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:

    • An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    • Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended); you can install without Mac OS X v10.6 by using an OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, available on the Apple Online Store
    • 7 GB of available disk space
    • 2 GB of RAM

     

    Make sure you backup all of your important data before embarking on a major OS upgrade/update.

    This is to make sure you have copy of your Mac's hard drive in just something goes wrong during the system upgrade/update.
