how risky is it to skip a backup when using bootcamp?
I simply dont have anywhere (space wise) to backup to, and I need to dual boot Windows 8.1 to run AutoCAD for college.

You should always have some backup schemes in place - external hard drive are rather inexpensive these days and it would help to have multiple backups in place. See -> Most commonly used backup methods.
