Disable closed captions by default on iPhone

Suddenly, about a week ago, any videos that I play on my iPhone that include the option for closed captions, automatically default to showing the closed captions. I've already gone through the accessibility settings to ensure I have the option for Subtitles & Captioning set to off and also that my phone's language is set to English.

I've even tried clicking on the closed caption icon at the bottom right of the screen while watching a video and set the option to off, but when I refresh my browser and return back to the video, the closed caption option defaults back to on (English).

I think this may be a glitch but I'm curious to know if anyone else has encountered this behavior. See link below for the video as an example.

I have tested this using the iPhone with iOS 7.1 and I have that same issue. The setting to ovver CC/Subtitles that appears with the comment icon to turn it off is a setting within youtube. Since I was playing it fomr the browser and it did the same thing form another video, I can see this is a defualt for some videos on youtube, and not a setting being fed form the iPhone. You may be able to download the youtube app, sign in to it and set a permanent setting there, but playin git form the browser does not seem to have any option to change it permentantly as we are not signing into youtube (or at least I am not when testing).

Good news, it's not your iPhone's doing. Bad news, it's Google's setting and I don;t know how to fix it and you can't just call up google. Good Luck!

What's funny is that if I use the direct link then I get no CC and no CC OPTIONS.

This is the link I tested in addition to the main link her posted. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3hXmq_PNgrk

If you go to YouTube.com via safari and click on the miller fortune add that shows at the top then the cc is there. It seems to only occur when browsing the site, not from a direct link.

I'm having the same issue--but with the TiVo app. Not sure if I'm having it with YouTube too. The phone setting automatically comes on, even after you've shut it off, and then when you use the app, and you attempt to turn off CC from within the app, you get a message that it's not possible because the device settings have CC turned on. It's rendering it impossible for me to stream a Tivo show to my phone without CC. 😟
