Q: No application memory left.  Getting worse and worse.  My Mac Pro is basically unusable.  I am about to go back to a PC.

I am ready to go back to a PC.  I cannot use my computer.  I have lost photos.  Can't even download from carbonite to replace lost itemsk  because of lack of application memory.  It is driving me crazy.  This computer cost too much for this kind of thing to be happening.  Mine has been happening for over a year.  I can't get answers.

Iphoto ios, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5), OS X version 10.9.1

WHen I responded m I was telling Reese that you were still in the process of working out your Carbonite issues.

I am not rushing you, but others seemed to be.

I am writing this from my iPad, also,

I am going to my computer now to see why you are having issues with Etrecheck.

The directions are pretty straightforward, though.

I will get back to you shortly.

I think SafariDAVClient looks like it is using a lot of your processor. It could be causing the slowdown that you are seeing.

Can you try turning off iCloud bookmark syncing to see if it helps matters…

Open the Apple menu > System Preferences, select iCloud and turn off bookmark syncing & reboot, let us know if anything changes.

    Well,

The good news is that your system doesn't appear to have any of the usual suspect applications that normal wreak havoc on a completely normal running Mac.

The bad news is I am not sure what is causing this error.

The only thing I see is that Safari Web Browser is using 92 % of your CPU and Carbonite is using 42%

    This is very high.

I know Carbonite is an offsite, remote data storage service.

It looks as though the Carbonite app places a lot of files everywhere.

If possible, go to the Carbonite website and see if there are any Mavericks updates for this that you can download and install.

I am NOT familiar, at all, with Carbonite, but is there a way to disable this to make sure it is NOT backing up data to these remote servers all the time?

Is there a way to setup Carbonite to only backup data when you away from your Mac for extended periods of time each day instead of letting it constantly trying to backup all the time (if that maybe what it is doing?)

I believe between the CPU usage of Safari with Carbonite ruuning, this is where your Application Memory error is coming from.

See if you make changes to the way Carbonite backs up your data if that will fix that particular error.

I was refering to the ability of the machine to be able do the function, not yourself, You have done well posting the etrecheck reports and the lads will now analyse them for you. Sorry my post sounded as an inference towards you and not your misbehing Mac. Again I apologise.

Once we get past this issue, here is the next step.

Your photos are still on your Mac or external hard drive ( if that is where your images/photos are), now that you are on OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks, your current versions of iLife apps ( iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto ) will no longer work.

If you use iPhoto, you will have to pay to upgrade to Apple's new 64 bit, Mavericks compatible version of iPhoto.

A little off subject here. But googling "carbonite daemon" brings up a bunch of website of people complaining about Carbonite daemon using a lot of cpu. So if would seem that this program isn't a friendly program.

I purchased iPhoto while im Mt Lion. When I upgraded to Mavericks, I didn't have to purchase the new one. When the upgrade process was done. It told me that I needed to upgrade iPhoto, as well as other iLife products. Which I did and it never took any money.

    1.  Does it upgrade all three programs?

    2.  Will it then recover photos that are on my hard drive on my Mac?

    3.  What about Aperture?  Will it work with Aperture without the upgrade?

    4.  Will it open photos saved on my external drive under the old Iphoto program?

    Thank you for the information.
