@ustad_khan - Your trick worked like a charm. I did not want to pay for iFone Umate since I use iOS and it is not free for iOS. The trial version is awful!. But when I tried to download a big file from iTunes Store (4.5 GB) it cleared 2.9 GB on my phone!!!
I had the same unfortunate experience, I routinely cleaned iPhone by attempting to download a movie that exceeds available storage, but on latest attempt I got charged for it although it did not download. To avoid this I now chose to download a previously purchased movie that resides in my PC and that will not fit into the phone. That is free and resolves the issue as before.
THE iMyfone Umate APP IS A RIPOFF!!! I ran the trial and it stated that I had 1.45 GB of temporary files that I could "clean up", but I had to purchase the product to delete temp files. So I did. After which it re-scanned my phone and said that I now only had 546 MB of temp. files to clear. So I did that. After which it told me that it was only able to clear 50 MB of the 546. From 1.45 GB before purchase to 50 MB after. Complete ripoff. AVOID THIS PRODUCT!!!
Hi, you can use iPhoneClean, just install it on your computer, connect your iPhone via USB and you can delete temporary files and others.
Ok, this might help but i do not want to install a software by third party. Is the no way inside the iOS or by iTunes?
Please do not use anything on your iPhone that wasn't purchased in the App Store. It voids any warranty and may damage your phone.
As for Facebook... The app is listed in the App Store as 60 MB. That is the bare bones with NONE of your personal information stored.
You can manually delete any messages. The rest of the space is your personal sign in, settings, etc.
if you feel Facebook is still taking up too much space, you can sign out of the app. Delete the account in settings.
Delete the Facebook app from iPhone.
Then reverse the process to add back.
You can and should dump history, cache and cookies in settings, Safari
Hi lizdance40, the way you discribed is the way i finaly did but: I think apple and facebook are professional companys. In my Opinion there should be a possibility of deleting temporary files without deleting und reinstalling the applikation.
So i see that there is no possibilty to do so. Other applications offer this possibilitys by the way....
If you go into settings then general, then manage storage, scroll down until you see the app and click it. Once you do that you will see a button saying delete documents and data and you can use that to free up space without uninstalling the app.
Hope this helps
Hi Anthony Hobbs, i thought this would help but was only half of the volume (about 200 MB). So 140 MB still were stored. so this way does not work proper.
according to Anthony Hoobs advice: His solutions does not work! it is not possible to delete the documents. There is only the button to delete the app.
The settings that Anthony was referring to actually only involves whether you want to back up this data to your iCloud. if you are up against the 5GB limit, or over it, you can select from this list to choose not to back up these apps. it does not delete any information from your phone, only the backup of the information from the cloud.
Go to iTunes Store->Movies, click on a HD movie->Click Buy, (Don't have to buy for real). After few second it will say there is not enough storage to download.
Now, go to setting and look for the free space.. be surprised....
it looks like when you try to download a big file from the iTunes store, it automatically cleans the old temporary files.
A little warning about the tip buying a movie in iTunes Store:
I have tried it with success the first time.
But the last time I tried it ended up costing me money!!
It didn't free up any space and I got to pay for nothing since the file size was too big...
Try using iMyfone Umate Free. Make sure you use the free software as this allows you to clear the temporary files.
I was able to clear 1.25 GB temporary files.
Hope this helps!
I am so sorry that you had to loose money. Actually, no credit or debit card information is linked to my apple account. So I never faced this problem. Thanks for the warning
