    Hi Kigali,

    enough Ram, enough disk space.

    1. you can delete the Amazon extension in Safari: you can add to the wish list without that extension.

    2. you had CleanMyMac on your mac, there are still remnants. What dis you use it for?, did you remove languages? Did you remove binaries? both answers are important.

    3. You had Ouc. not completely uninstalled.

    4. You have to remove all entries in SystemPreferences/Accounts&Groups/LoginItems (with the minus sign underneath). This does not uninstall anything just makes that you have to start the apps by hand.

    5. We get a few things to remove now:

--Go to yourname /Library /LaunchAgents folder and delete  com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.helperTool.plist

If it is it not there look in  MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchAgents folder.

--In MacintoshHD /Library/StartUpItems  folder delete   HWPortDetect    and   HWNetMgr

Now restart, empty the Trash bin.

Answer the questions in point 2: important for how to proceed.

    working on this.

Ouc - not sure what that is or how to complete the uninstal.

CleanMyMac - I believe that was used on my previous MacBook and just came over with the move earlier this year.  have not used it on this unit....I don't think I have anyway.

    Restarting now.

OK, no CMM, not need to Rextore the OS.

Help me remember that we have to look at the hosts file later, for now start DiskUtility and do "repair permissions": the permissions of the hosts file may have been compromised.

    When ready:

    We go on now:

    6. in MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchDaemons/  folder   move PPPMonitor.plist out of this folder to a temporary backup folder on the desktop.

in MacintoshHD /Library/LaunchAgents/  folder  move  Swapper.plist   to that temporary backup folder also.

    7. in MacintoshHD /Library/InternetPlugins/  folder  delete  the two AobePDFViewer plugins, the Garmin plugin (when you do not use that anymore), the Sharepointbrowserplugin, the Silverlight plugin, NP_2020Player_IKEA.

    8. Uninstall  iScrapbook, and ClamXav (I am not sure this is fully Mavericks compatible).

-- in MacintoshHD /Library/ApplicationSupport/Microsoft/  delete the Silverlight folder.

-- Uninstall the  Core Keygen app !!

Now do a restart again, empty the trash bin.

    make a new etrecheck list.

    Good work.

Now we are going to check out the hosts file:

    Be very careful now:

In Finder  menupoint GO, click the "Go To Folder" line (one from bottom), then fill in the address   /private/etc/

That folder opens, in there you search for a file called    hosts    (just that). COPY it to the desktop, then in Finder click another folder like the documents folder or so.

Now CTL+clik the hosts file on the desktop, choose getinfo and add copy to the name. Close the getinfo panel.

Double click the hosts.copy file on the desktop, Textedit opens with the text, select all and copy it. Then post it in our next post.

Yes, what I thought. Your hosts file is compromised, probably by CoreKeygen.

Do you still use any illegal copy of  an Adobe app? I must know this, to choose what to do now.

My wife advises that the Adobe stuff was loaded by a coworker and has no idea of the orrigin.  So if it looks to you not properly registered than we would agree that it is likely unliscened or whatnot.  She rarely ever uses photoshop components but does use reader regualarly.

It is not the Adobe Reader. It is an Adobe app that has been downloaded and bricked with a false license code provided by CoreKeygen and that also changes the hosts file to block access to the adobe sites.

You have uninstalled CoreKeygen like I said, I suppose. You should absolutely avoid these kind of things because it may cripple your computer. Ok now that has been said. we will go on:

Uninstall  the Adobe stuff  (and I mean really uninstall, not just dragging the app to the Trash). Even the harmless Reader (because Apple Preview is much better).

You can delete the   hosts.copy  file on the desktop.

    Now carefully do the following:

Download an app called Textwrangler (in the Appstore, the free version).

Then go back to the original hosts file in the way I said above.

CTL+click the hosts file and choose open with, then choose Textwrangler.

In that window delete the last two lines, instead put  one   #   character as last line.

    Save the file.

    Quit Textwrangler.

In Finder go out of that folder.

To be sure that everything is correct open DiskUtility, choose your disk, and do "repair permissions".

You may uninstall Textwrangler (drag it to the trash is enough).

    Restart, empty Trash.

Just one etrecheck to see that I did not forget something.

    Both files are good.

But yes, I remember: The Appstore one does not allow to do this.

Download an app called Appcleaner here:

    http://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/

Install, (quit Textwrangler if open), open and drag the Textwrangler app on it: deletes completely.

    Now download Textwrangler from here:

    http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/

install and do with this one what I said above.
