Q: Airport Extreme Keeps flashing Yellow

I just had AT&T U-Verse installed yesterday, and wanted to continue using my Airport Extreme. I plugged the ethernet cable from the extreme to the U-Verse modem, and then changed my network preference back to Airport Extreme, from the AT&T provided router. I am able to access the internet via the extreme, and all my devices (Apple TV, Ipad, Iphone) are also still able to use my old network setup on the extreme, but the indicator keeps flashing yellow. Why hasn't it switched to the steady "on" green?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.1), So far everything else seems OK.

You now have an ATT modem/router....not a modem....and an AirPort Extreme router operating in series on a network. When this occurs, you always want the second router.....the AirPort Extreme to operate in Bridge Mode.

The amber light is likely flashing to indicate that you need to do this. To see if this might be the case......

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility

Click directly on the amber dot, and a message will pop up to tell you why the light is flashing

A Double NAT error is an indication that do have two routers both trying to operate on the same network, and you need to change the AirPort Extreme to operate in Bridge Mode

You should see an option to do this when you click on the amber dot next to Double NAT.

If the option does not appear......

Click Edit in the smaller window

Click the Network tab at the top of the next window

Change the setting for Router  Mode from DHCP and NAT to Off (Bridge Mode)

Click Update and save the new settings and allow a full minute for the AirPort Extreme to restart

On the other hand.....if you see a different type of message when you open AirPort Utility and click on the amber dot, post back with the exact message.

I had same problem after changing my Apple password but never guessed that was cause of my problem until I read your post. Thanks for your solution.
