Sorry Lawrence, you are so generous, but I am almost giving up here. I am not very good at technologies, I am not young anymore and this Iphone was a gift from a daughter. I used it for a year and now I am away from home and I dont have a way of talking to my daughter so she can help me. I am now thinking of buying just another phone, something that I can use for calling and simple internet like facebook and email

I tried again today the restore and it says the error is 3014, I hope this reply is not too late for Lawrence Finch

Error 3194, Error 17, or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build" - Apple Support

Error 3014 is in the range listed.  Use this article and its steps.
