Q: FCP 6.0.6 and my Nikon D800 :/

hi, i am using final cut version 6.0.6 and my Nikon D800 doesn't seem to be recognised when trying to upload.. I understand FCP doesn't like the format H.264. Is there a way around this without losing image/audio quality?
