I solved the mystery of disappearing sent email

I sent an email to my Cardiologist, within a half hour decided to retrieve the sent mail to make a correction of a word, apparently when I deleted the word THE ENTIRE EMAIL DISAPPEARED, DID NOT appear in Sent, Trash, or any other place. This happened before but Apple and Verizon could not solve the disappearance, when I pulled up other sent emails to change a word delete the word same thing happened, completly disappeared, must be a Verizon faulty program, why didn't it ask "do you want to delete email" or put it in trash

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

from now on whenever I retrieve a sent email to make a correction before forwarding the corrected email DO NOT ATTEMPT CORRECTING THE WORD, THE ENTIRE EMAIL WILL DISAPPEAR INTO OUTER SPACE! I HAVE Verizon so don't know about other servers

probably best to go to sent position and forward email to yourself, then make the correction and forward from the inbox position to whomever

This comment is only peripherally related to yours. Email should not be considered private unless it's encrypted. You have no way of knowing who might be reading your incoming or outgoing messages. Don't put anything in clear-text email that you wouldn't want to be public knowledge.
