I reset my iphone 3g or 3gs completely without backing it up first. Is there any way I can restore it without anything to back it up?

What do you mean by "reset".
A reset is holding down the home and sleep button, waiting for the Apple logo and letting go of the buttons. Is this what you did?
What "stuff" are you trying to recover?
I mean I erased EVERYTHING and I didn't back it up first. Is there anything I can do
If you then used Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings you cannot recover anything. You can download iTunes purchased apps and music again for no charge.
Anyway to download my message and call icons back? Or to restore it back to its origiknal state?
Restore it in iTunes as a new device.
