When you download a previous purchase, enable automatic downloads or turn on iTunes Match on your device, it becomes associated with the iTunes ID you are signed in with at the time. Once that happens, the device cannot be associated with a different ID for 90 days. What probably happened is you associated your device with a different ID than the ID you used to purchase this TV series. After doing this, you can't switch to this ID for 90 days (more details here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627).
