export video from iPhoto to iMovie

I have over 13,000 photos and videos in Iphoto , I am trying to move my videos from IPhoto to IMovies, yet I can't figure out how to do this. All of the videos have been made using my iphone. When I open IMovie , it doesn't show any imported videos from iphoto.
