Can I stop iMessage from syncing conversations between devices?

I want my iPhone to have iMessage active, as well as on my iPad and computer using my cellphone number, but I don't want the conversations on one device going to the other. Is there a way to stop this?

iOS 7.1

Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive on your iPad and Messsages>Preferences Accounts in your Mac and uncheck your iPhone number under "You can be reached by iMessage at". Then check a different email address under this heading on each, and check this same email address under "Start new conversations from". After that, your phone will receive iMessages sent to your phone number and your iPad and Mac will receive iMessages sent to the email addresses you selected on them.

Hi thanks for the helpful thread guys. I have a work phone and a personal phone. Today I just updated the work phone to iOS 11.0.3. As soon as it came back on and made me do a bunch of set up steps, I started receiving personal texts to both phones. This is quite inconvenient as I really want to keep work and personal conversations separate.

I followed kkalra's suggestion of turning off message forwarding, but it's actually turned off already on both devices, so what else can I do??

Your iPhone number will still be linked to the ID you are using for iMessage, and will still appear as an option on all your devices. But if you don't want the conversations sent to your phone number to appear on your other devices, you need to uncheck it as an option under "You can be reached by iMessage at". You can always re-check this if you change your mind later.

I have already unchecked and checked etc. My problem is the minute I turn iMessage on again, say from using my iPhone all day, to moving to my mini at night, EVERY CONVERSATION I've had AND deleted loads on the newly turned on device.

Or on my computer when I pull up iMessage for the weekend...

I realize I can turn it off but the reload has me baffled.

Thank you for the help, I appreciate it.
