how can I get the best result when making a photobook?

I have been disappointed with the last photobook I made. Is it the printing process or can I use specific settings on my Mac to give me a more realistic picture of what I will get when the pictures are printed?

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Use the largest pixel dimension images possible. If their size is not in the 4:3 size ratio as digital camera images are crop them to 4:3 but as large as possible.

Make sure the color mode is RBG with the sRGB color profile. The profile to avoid is the Adobe RGB profile.

Always proof your book for any errors via a PDF version as described in this Apple document: iPhoto, Aperture: Previewing an order in iPhoto or Aperture.

Save the PDF file to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.
