Q: how to delete items from start-up disk? what can I delete safely?
I need to delete items from my startup disk on my MacBook Pro in order to download OS X Maverick. I'm sometimes told my startup disk is full, and I then delete old photos etc, but I'd really like to understand this and how to do it safely. Any instructions or help offered will be gladly received, very keen to learn.
Thanks!

Mac OS X
You have to remove any of your documents, photos, movies, etc. from your hard drive to free up space. If you wish to keep those things, move them to an external drive.
If you are backing up with Time Machine, note that anything you delete from your hard drive will eventually be deleted from the TM backup.
