Q: Showing File Paths and SaveAs default locations (in ML and Mavericks)

i feel like i am playing a big game of hide and seek when searching for files in Spotlight and when working in open files because i can never tell where they are until i am actually STARING RIGHT AT THEM in Finder (which is ridiculous since if i see them in finder i know where they are by definition).

anyway, at one point i downloaded some kind of file path droplet and i am wondering if the power users can help me out a little with how they navigate this issue.

i am finding it to be a real pain with something as simply as opening a file, duplicating it, editing it and then wanting to save it back to the folder of the original file. bringing back the SaveAs in Mavericks does not seem to solve this since AFAIK the SaveAs default location is the Desktop which is no help at all unless i want to go manually /find/ the file i just opened and Duplicated...

anyone finding a good way to work around this?

TIA
