Hey guys, I keep getting this error when I try to empty the trash. There's a folder that I haven't been able to delete for few months now. How can I empty the trash?

Please help me.

Hey guys, I'm still struggling with this problem. When I mount the Truecrypt container and try to empty the trash I get this error:

"The operation can’t be completed because the item “SportPsyche” is in use."

Could someone PLEASE help me?

Edit: When the Truecrypt container isn't mounted I can empty the Trash, however, I'll need to empty the Trash when the Truecrypt container is mounted because I've got files I need to delete!

- With the TrueCrypt disk mounted.

- After you have clicked the Trash, and view the files, right click on one of the files. Choose a file which you think is safe to recover.

- Do you get an option to "Put Back"

- Does this work? ( file is no longer in Trash )

This is to check the TrueCrypt disk is working correctly.

You can try this on the other external drives you have mentioned above.

Do you know which file system the TrueCrypt drive has been formated with? FAT or OS X Extended Journaled?

There are suspicions now from your reply that the TrueCrypt container is corrupted and requires a " repair disk " and "repair permissions" which you run from Disk Utility.app under the directory: /Applications/Utilities. Under Disk Utility too, you can find the file system this conainer is using.

- Before performing the above, dismount and take a backup copy of the TrueCrypt container file to another disk partition.

- Make sure you can mount this backup and view existing files. Dismount the backup before proceeding.

- This step is performed in case the repair and/or repair of permissions corrupt the TrueCrypt container and the files within it are lost forever. Then you can use the backup copy to access your existing files without loss.

All of the above posts are exercising caution in using the rm command. This is because experienced advice will be given to you so the outcome is you move on, but with minimizing the loss of your files.

Hope you understand. See how it goes.

I just checked and the Truecrypt container is: MS-DOS (FAT32)

How does this alter what I do from here?

It doesn't change what you do from here but you still need to be cautious. Be sure the backup container works before dismounting it and proceeding on the problematic container.

With the external USB drives mentioned, best practice is to eject these drives before removal so corruption is avoided.

See how it goes with the container.
