Q: Accounts for kids

How do I create sub-accounts under mine? Both of my kids have iPhones and Apple products and would like to keep things separate.

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.1

There are no "sub-accounts" as such. If your kids are over the age of 13, they can set up accounts of their own. They'll each need an email address and will need to enter in a credit card or a prepaid iTunes card or gift certificate unless they only want the free apps. If they're under the age of 13, you can create and manage Apple IDs and iTunes Store accounts for them.

Note that any apps or content purchased through your own account will remain tied to that account and can't be transferred. But any future content can be purchased through their own accounts.

    Regards.

Thanks! They're both under 13 years old. I'm not sure I understand your statement "you can create and manage Apple IDs and iTunes Store accounts for them." How do I tie them to my current Apple ID?

You don't tie them to your own Apple ID. Each ID and iTunes Store account will be completely separate.

The terms of use for the iTunes Store state that users must be at least 13 years or age, so if your kids are younger, they cannot themselves set up accounts and make purchases. You'll have to do it on their behalf, setting up an account for each child and making the purchases yourself.

    Regards.

What if I want to restrict the apps on the screen? why can't I remove apps that a kid has no need of.

Even when I use the parental controls( Very Loose interpretation) my 6 year old can still find music and text and go in apps like weather and stocks...  Why can't I remove them from the interface. I do not care if they have to remain on the device or not. I just do not want my child pressing the button.

Brian, This thread is almost 2 years old, and it predates Family Sharing.

To do what you want, use Family Sharing and enable Ask To Buy.

Request and make purchases with Ask to Buy - Apple Support

That is not what I was asking at all. I can already turn off any purchases.

I want to remove apps that are apple apps from the screen on a tablet that is used by my child. i.e. messages, newsstand, stocks, settings, etc... if the apps are there they will go into them. either remove them from screen or group them in a group and lock that group with the restrictions code... why not that... I am moving to the kindle tablets for my kids because of this.

It seems like ti would be a simple fix to put certain apps under the restrictions tab they can't be opened that way.
