Make A headphone mix for vocalist using saphirepro14 interface

Hi. Can someone tell me the best way to set up a headphone mix in logic x. I have a saphire pro 14 interface and was wondering what the best way to be able to increase/decrease volumes of headphone mix for vocalist while not affecting the level of the overall mix. Any ideas or techniques would be greatly appreciated...i have seen videos talking about bussing out sends, but was wondering if there is a better way or anything more specific for the saphire pro14 interface...thanks

Logic Pro X, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

Jay -

I do it by emulating a traditional console, and using sends on the channel strips to send to a bus. The output of that bus is sent to the headphone outs on my RME interface. If your Focusrite has a specific output path to your headphone outs on the Sapphire Pro, great. If not, you may need to use the DSP mixer in the Focusritre to route the audio to your phone jack.

cool. So, basically if i wanted to adjust volume via using the bus sends en route to stereo outs i would not want to plug in my headphones to the headphone out on the interface, but instead plug them into the line outs on the back of the interface? the saphire pro 14 has 6 output lines on the back of the interface while there is one insert on the front with a vol control for headphones to be plugged in with a 1/4 jack... would the bus sending option only work if i send the stereo output to the line outs on the back of my interface and not the aforementioned headphone jack front input?thanks

If you can avoid it, DON'T send the headphone feed to the stereo outs at all. You want your headphone mix to be independant of what's going on on your stereo bus/outs.

When you fire up Logic, and go to select OUTPUTS for a given track, how mant OUTPUTS to you see as being selectable? Chances are you want to select something like OUTPUT 3&4 going to the Saffire to keep things separated.

Using the DSP mixer in the Saphire, find a way to connect its INPUT 3&4 to the Sapphire's headphone outs

Here's an (admittedly busy) example of how I do it:

Note that all of the MON1 sends go to the channel strip marked Mon1(9). The output of this bus goes to Pamp1 (RED - right after the stereo outs), which is actually my RME's output 3&4. I labeled in Pamp1 or Phamp1 (sorry for the inconsistency) because that physical output goes to one of my headpone amps.

Just for additional info, the output (RED) marked 'Phone B' goes directly to my RME's embedded headphone output (which happens to be output 9&10 on my RME).

Hopefully this didn't confuse things further.
