Apple introduced a new version Pages 5 recently.

In my opinion, you are better off staying with Pages 09.

For the latest version of Pages you need OS X Mavericks, if you are happy with what you have or can manage without the changes in the new version I would stay with what you have.

The iWork 9.3 Update will update the original version of applications within iWork '09 to:

    Pages 4.3, Numbers 2.3, and Keynote 5.3.

This update is recommended for users of iWork 9.0 and later.

Standalone installers for iWork 9.3 are available on theApple Support Downloads page.

OS X Lion v10.7.4 or later is required to run this update.

You need the versions above to upgrade further for free to the newer Mavericks versions but many people prefer to stay with the pre-Mavericks versions for now until the newer versions are improved.

jimity - Apple always recommend users to use the latest update. It isn't always neccassary.
